David started full-bore target rifle shooting in Northern Ireland at Campbell College School, Belfast in 1965. He shot for Ireland 3 years later as a member of the Ireland National Match team, and first represented GB on the 1975 tour to Canada. He was selected for Lawrence Hoddle’s GB team to the West Indies in 1978, but had to pull out due to RAF ‘operational commitments’, so is really looking forward to finally touring the ‘Windies’, albeit 35 years ‘late’! After a 15 year gap for work and family, and having “sorted out his work/shooting balance”, he has toured with GB teams most years since 1991, including a shoot in Barbados that year with the GB ‘pre-Palma’ tour en route to the USA. He has now shot competitively on 5 Continents, touring with GB, Ireland, the Royal Air Force and Northern Ireland, totalling around 40 overseas shooting tours. He has no doubt that the ‘Windies’ tour will be one of the highlights, enhanced by the legendary Caribbean hospitality!
Back in the UK, David is currently a part-time flying instructor with the RAF Reserve. His main activity interests, in addition to shooting and flying, include golf and skiing.
